As Featured in the Forage Guide: Abbey Machinery’s High-Spec Slurry Solutions in Action

Abbey Machinery’s Premium Plus Tankers take centre stage in the latest Forage Guide, showcasing their role in sustainable slurry management. See how they’re delivering real-world results at Salesian Agricultural College—combining high-spec performance with practical benefits on the ground.

Check out this recent Abbey Machinery feature from The Farmers Monthly Forage & Nutrition Guide 2025, where the spotlight is firmly on the technology and performance of our slurry equipment—particularly how it’s helping farmers and educators embrace precision, sustainability, and real-world efficiency.

With pressure mounting to reduce emissions and manage nutrients more effectively, Abbey’s Low Emission Slurry Spreading (LESS) technology is leading the charge—offering both environmental compliance and practical savings.

“The Abbey Premium Plus Tanker range is engineered using class-leading specifications. Recessed with full-length chassis support, parabolic weight-sensing multi-leaf sprung drawbar, patented double trap system and collared dish ends, which give additional support to the cylinder for a longer working life. It is recognised as one of the best-balanced tankers on the market due to extremely low ground pressure, excellent turning ability, and low diesel consumption. It also requires surprisingly low horsepower for towing.”

A Real-World Learning Tool: Salesian Agricultural College

At Salesian Agricultural College, Pallaskenry, a 2,750-gallon Abbey Premium Plus tanker fitted with a trailing shoe system plays a vital role on their 550-acre farm. The college, which trains over 400 students annually, uses the tanker for both hands-on training and day-to-day farm operations.

“The medium-sized Abbey tanker is a great educational tool,” says Shane Ryan, Machinery Lecturer. “We can benchmark different slurry spreading rates, monitor dry matter content and nutrient value using the Flowmeter, NIR, and GPS systems.”

Towed by a 195 hp Valtra tractor with autosteer, the system ensures zero overlap, even on uneven or hilly ground. The built-in baffles prevent slurry from shifting dangerously on slopes—an essential safety feature for farms with varied terrain.

“With the trailing shoe, slurry is applied at ground level, so the smell is reduced, less nutrients are wasted, and grazing can resume faster. We’ve also made significant savings on chemical fertilisers,” Shane adds.

Whether it’s in the field or the classroom, Abbey Machinery tankers continue to prove their value—delivering precision, durability, and unmatched performance.
